Lesson 5: The Lamb is Worthy

1.  What did John see in the right hand of the Lord?  See Revelation 5:1.

Answer: A sealed with seals.

This book was perfectly sealed!  We will see that this symbolic book contained essential information regarding the destiny of all the saved!

2.  Was anyone able to open the book?  See Revelation 5:2-3.

Answer:.

No mortal could do what was required to open the book, or even to look upon it!  Notice also that the verse refers to the dead who are “under the earth.”  The verse does not say they are in heaven or hell!  It also says there are some "men" in heaven.  This refers to those resurrected when Jesus was, which we spoke about in our last session.  But even they were not able to open the book!

3.  What did John do when he realized that no one was worthy to open the book?  See verse 4.

Answer: He .

This book is the record of God’s dealings with man.  John wept because he knew that the salvation of all depended on someone being worthy to open the book -- to redeem man.  Surely without the Lord Jesus Christ, we would all have nothing else to do but weep over our lostness!  But there is One worthy!  Let’s read on!

4.  Who did the elder tell John had prevailed and hence was worthy to open the book?  See verse 5.

Answer: The of the tribe of , the of David.

This is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ!  He has prevailed for us!  He has conquered the devil at Calvary and He is mighty to save all who come to Him!  See John 6:37 and John 12:31-32.

5.  What did John see in the midst of the throne?  See verse 6.

Answer: "a as it had been ."

This is the Lamb of God -- Jesus Christ!  His sacrifice for our sins is the center of the whole great controversy between Christ and Satan!  He was the only One in the universe who could have redeemed mankind!  The life of a created being could not redeem others since no other being has eternal life to give.  Only the one Who is the source of all life could redeem the fallen race!

Also, the “seven horns and seven eyes” mentioned in verse six refer to the perfect knowledge (eyes) and perfect power (horn) the Lamb of God possesses!  He is omnipotent (all powerful), and omniscient (all knowing)!  He is also perfectly filled with the Holy Spirit!

6.  What did the Lamb do with the book?  See verse 7.

Answer: He it out of the of Him that on the .

7.  What did the elders and the four heavenly beasts do when the Lamb did this?  See verse 8.

Answer: They before the .

We too ought to fall down often to our knees and praise the Lamb for having redeemed us with His own blood!  In fact, one day "every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!"  See Philippians 2:10.   “Every knee” also includes the knees of Satan who will be forced to bow before his perfectly righteous and just Creator!

8. What did John write was contained in the “golden vials full of odors”?  verse 8.

Answer: "the of ."

All who received Jesus Christ as Lord are “saints” according to the Bible!  See Philippians 1:1.   Our prayers rise to heaven’s sanctuary where they are heard and answered by God!  Our prayers are incense to God, and He delights when His children talk to Him from their heart!

9.  Why is the Lamb worthy to take the book and open it?  See verse 9.

Answer: Because He was and has us to God by His .

We are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb if we have asked Jesus to be our Lord and Savior!

10. Those who have been redeemed have been made and and who will one day on the with Jesus!  See Revelation 5:10.

As kings and priests we have both a tremendous destiny and responsibility!  We are to minister to others as priests of God.  If we are faithful as priests, we will also rule with Jesus and share His throne!

11.  How many angels did John see in heaven?  See verse 11.

Answer: "Ten times and of ."

This is a number that cannot be calculated because we don’t know how many “thousands of thousands” the prophet is talking about.  But we do know that there are millions, perhaps billions of angels that are available to help us as the people of God!  They are “ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation.”  See Hebrews 1:14.

Verses 12 through 14 of chapter five are praises that extol the worthiness of the Lamb “that was slain” to receive honor, riches, wisdom, strength, power and glory!  Notice that verse 13 mentions both the Lamb, and “Him that sitteth on the throne.” This proves wrong the idea that Jesus is just another manifestation of God.  He lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit!  Verse 14 tells of the 24 elders and the four beasts also praising God, and notice that they do it in a “loud voice.” See verse 12.   Let’s be bold for Jesus and testify of His love and glory to others!

Bonus Study on The Law Of God

1.  Sin is the transgression of God’s law.  1 John 3:4.

2.  The devil sinned “from the beginning.”  He is opposed to God’s law.  He is angry with those who “keep the commandments of God.”  John 8:44 & Revelation 12:17.

3.  The law of God, and His Ten Commandments, existed before they were written on tablets of stone and given to Moses.  The Hebrews were reminded of the law because they had been in bondage in Egypt for 400 years!  But God’s principles are eternal! See Genesis 26:5 & Psalm 119:142-144.

4.  God’s law is “holy, just, and good” as is the Lawgiver who gave it!  Romans 7:12.

5.  If we really love God and His Son Jesus Christ, we will obey His law.  John 14:15 & 1 John 5:3.

6.  We must keep ALL of the Ten Commandments, for to break one is to break them all.  James 2:10-12.

7.  It is the carnal or sin-loving mind that is against God’s law. The person who claims to know Jesus should love to keep God’s Ten Commandments!  Romans 8:7 & 1 John 2:4.

8.  Jesus said that those who taught others to disobey the “least” of His commandments would be called "least" in the kingdom of heaven.  The word translated “least” there literally means “as nothing” or non-existent!  Matthew 5:15-19.

9.  The Ten Commandants were part of both the Old and the New Covenants.  In the Old Covenant, the law was written on tablets of stone, and in the New Covenant, the law is written in the heart of the truly converted person.  The New Covenant does not do away with the law!  Hebrews 10:16 & Romans 3:31.

10.  Circumcision and other sacrificial rituals were part of the “law of Moses.”  These laws were done away with at the cross. But the Ten Commandments are a transcript of the character of God, and they are moral principles that will exist forever!  See Acts 15:5 & 1 Corinthians 7:19.  (Check a modern translation)

11.  Because we are under “grace,” and no longer under the penalty of the law, does not mean that we now have a license to sin -- transgress God’s law!  See Romans 6:14-15.

12.  Once we repent and are forgiven, we are to go out and live a life of obedience to God’s commandments.  We are to “go and sin no more.”  John 8:11.

13.  Those only who are obedient to God will have a right to eat from the tree of life and to enter into the New Jerusalem!  Revelation 22:14 in the KJV.
