Lesson 4: Throne Room of the Universe

Consider the Heavens the Work of His Fingers

1.  What did John see opened in heaven?  See Revelation 4:1.

Answer: a .

2.  What was in that room that he saw opened?  See Revelation 4:2.

Answer: A .

This door was a door into the heavenly sanctuary.  We say this because Psalm 11:4 says “The LORD is in His holy temple, the LORD’S throne is in heaven.”  See also Psalm 102:19.   Also, in the earthly sanctuary modeled after the heavenly one, the glory of God filled the temple.  See Exodus 40:34.   God’s glory called the “Shekinah” was right above the ark of the covenant, which housed the Ten Commandments.  This was located in the most holy place, the second room or inner room of the sanctuary.  See Hebrews 9:2-5.

3.  What was John shown in vision in the heavenly sanctuary?  See Verse 1.

Answer: “things which be .

John was shown prophecy -- things which MUST come to pass!  What Jesus says in the book of Revelation must take place!

4.  What did John see around the throne?  See Revelation 4:3.

Answer: A .

The rainbow is a symbol of God’s covenant and promise to mankind.  See Genesis 9:12-17.

5.  Who did John see around the throne and how many were there?  See Revelation 4:4.

Answer: and sitting.

6.  What were they dressed in, and what did they have on their heads?  See verse 4 again.

Answer: They had on and had on
their heads.

According to Revelation 5:8-9, these elders were “redeemed from among men.”  They may have been the ones resurrected when Jesus was resurrected!  See Matthew 27:50-53 and also Ephesians 4:8.   The crowns on their heads are the same crowns we shall receive from the Lord Jesus!  Paul said we will receive this crown on the day of the Lord Jesus’ appearing!  See 2 Timothy 4:8.   This shows also that Paul did not expect to receive his reward at death, but rather when Jesus returned!  See also 1 Corinthians 15:22-23 & 51-55.

7.  What proceeded out from the throne?  See verse 5.

Answer: and and .

8.  What did the “seven lamps of fire burning before the throne” represent?  See same verse.

Answer: The of God.

Remember, the number 7 symbolizes perfection.  The Holy Spirit is perfect as a member of the Godhead!

9.  What was before the throne?  See Revelation 4:6.

Answer: A of .

This is described several times in the Bible.  Lucifer at one time walked up and down on these stones of fire!  Compare Revelation 15:2 with Ezekiel 28:14-15.

10.  In each proclamation that these awesome beasts surrounding the throne make day and night, how many times in each proclamation do they call out the name “holy”?  See verses 6-8.

Answer: times.

This is the same as Isaiah 6:3.  Many Bible scholars say that this threefold praise is for the Three Members of the Godhead!

11.  What do the 24 elders do when these beasts shout out glory, honor and thanks to the Godhead?  See verses 9-10.

Answer: "They Him that liveth forever and ever, and
their before the ..."

We too will one day receive crowns!  We too will be glad to cast them at the feet of Jesus in an act of worship and love for the great salvation He has provided us!

12.  Why did the elders say the Lord God was worthy to receive honor, glory and power?  Revelation 4:11.

Answer: Because He all , and for His they and were .

The Lord is our Creator.  This is why He is worthy of praise and worship!  This is also why He has given us the fourth of the Ten Commandments, which commands us to keep the seventh-day of the week holy as the Sabbath!  The Sabbath was given to us as a memorial of God’s creative work, and each week it reminds us that He is indeed our Creator!  See Exodus 20:8-11 at this time.

It is impossible to worship the God of heaven as Creator if we willingly fail to observe the seventh-day Sabbath!  The reason for this is because the Sabbath was given to mankind so that they would remember their Creator.  Claiming to worship the Creator and yet breaking the seventh-day Sabbath command would be like saying you love America, and yet, trampling on the American flag!  The Sabbath is God’s memorial of creation!

The only way that the seventh-day Sabbath could be done away with is that another God more powerful than Yahweh would have to come along, destroy the entire universe, create a new one, and give another day in memorial of His creation!  But friends, there is no other God!  There is only ONE Godhead of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  The Godhead that created all things gave the Sabbath as the sign of Their creatorship.  As long as the universe exists the seventh-day Sabbath will be observed!

Bonus study On The Return Of Jesus

1.  No one can know the exact day or hour of Jesus’ return, but we are to watch for it, and pray that we will be accounted worthy on that day.  Matthew 24:36 & Luke 21:36.

2.  Jesus said deception, famines, earthquakes, wars, pestilences, and moral collapse would be some signs of His return.  He also said that the gospel would go to all the world before the end.  We are close to seeing the latter fulfilled in our day!  Matthew 24:3-14.

3.  Daniel the prophet said that “knowledge would increase” in the “last days.”  Knowledge has increased dramatically in the last century -- more than all the centuries that preceded it combined! Daniel 12:4.

4.  God’s Word said people would be heady, high-minded, fierce, disobedient to parents, and lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God in these “last days” in which we live!  See 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

5.  Before Jesus returns, all the world will be called into the “valley of decision” where they must choose between God’s ways and His laws, versus the false religion and lawlessness of the day!  Joel 3:14-16.

6.  Peter told us that there would be “scoffers” in the last days who would ridicule the doctrine of Jesus’ return.  See 2 Peter 3:3-4.

7.  Jesus gave His own personal promise that He would return again.  John 14:1-3.

8.  The Bible clearly says that when Jesus returns, “every eye will see Him.”  His coming will not be a secret event!  See Revelation 1:7 & Matthew 24:30.

9.  The angels said that Jesus will return the same way He ascended to heaven -- on the clouds, and visibly!  See Acts 1:9-11.

10.  Jesus compared His return to “lightning.”  There are no secret lightning bolts!  See Matthew 24:27.

11. There will be plenty of noise and glorious tumult when Jesus returns!  See 1 Thessalonians 4:16 & Revelation 16:18-21.

12.  When Jesus returns, He will resurrect the “dead in Christ” and take them to heaven with the living who will be changed from mortal to immortal in the “twinkling on an eye.”  All the redeemed will go to heaven at the same time!  See 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 & 1 Corinthians 15:51-53.

13.  Before Jesus’ return, many would be saying that the world was entering upon a great period of “peace and safety.”  But then “sudden destruction cometh upon them.”  See 1 Thessalonians 5:3.

14. To be ready for heaven we must be “converted.”  We must
repent of our sins, and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior! Matthew 18:3 & Acts 3:19.
