The book of Revelation is an exciting and extremely important book of the Bible.  It is the book that explains in detail the religious history of the great controversy between Christ and Satan: a controversy which we are all involved in! Let’s begin the study of this exciting book prayerfully, and expectantly, waiting upon the Lord to lead us and guide us into all truth!

1.  What is the title of this book?  Chapter 1:1.

Answer:  The of .

So many are afraid of the book of Revelation because they feel that the symbolism and language used is too mysterious to understand.  But the very title of the book tells us that it is a “revelation,” that is, something that is revealed -- not hidden!

2. Who gave this revelation to Jesus Christ?  Revelation 1:1.

Answer: .

3.  For what purpose was this revelation given and why was it recorded for the people of God?  See verse 1 again.

Answer: "... to unto His things which come to ."

This book of revelation was written to inform us of things that must come to pass! The Lord wants us to know about these important matters!

4. There is a special blessing for those who do three things with this important book.  What are these three things?  Revelation 1:3.

Answer:  Blessed is he or she who , and the things written therein.

5. What does it say about Jesus in Revelation 1:5 pertaining to our salvation?

Answer: "... He us and us from our in His own ."

The blood of Jesus is the “soap” God uses to wash us from all our sins!  There is no stain that the blood cannot remove!

6. What has Jesus made of the redeemed?  Revelation 1:6.

Answer: and .

We have a great destiny and responsibility!  We are to act as righteous kings and priests are to act!  This is a tremendous revelation of what God expects of each of us!

7. Who will see Jesus return in power and glory?  Revelation 1:7.

Answer: “... every shall Him.”

This verse says that Jesus will come back visibly, the same way the disciples saw Him return to heaven as written in Acts 1:9-11!  Every one will see Him return on the clouds.  He will not come back “secretly” as so many falsely teach today!

8. Where was John when He received the visions of the Revelation?  Revelation 1:9.

Answer: In the of .

Patmos was a prison colony, and John was there because He witnessed for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.  Legend has it that before he was sent there, they tried to scald him to death in a cauldron of burning oil, but the Lord miraculously protected His beloved disciple! John was an old man at this time, probably in his nineties, yet he still bore a powerful witness for his Savior even in the face of death! Let us never be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ!

9. What day did John say it was when he heard the trumpet? Revelation 1:10.

Answer: The .

Some say that this term “Lord’s Day” means it was a Sunday when John received this vision. But the term “Lord’s Day” was never applied to the first day of the week in Bible times. That title was given to it by church leaders in the late 2nd century.

10. What did Jesus call Himself when He gave John these revelations?  Revelation 1:11.

Answer:  The and the .

These are the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet. Jesus is the FIRST and the last.  Only God could be called the FIRST!  This is clear Bible proof of the deity of Jesus Christ!

11. What did John see Jesus walking “in the midst of”?  verses 12-13.

Answer: golden .

In the days of Moses and ancient Israel, the seven golden candlesticks were in the holy place of the sanctuary.  See Exodus 37:17-18.   Verse 201 tells us that the seven golden candlesticks represent the “seven churches.”  Jesus walks among all the churches where honest hearted believers worship!  Jesus was also wearing the garments of a high priest when John saw Him. This is because Jesus is acting as our high Priest in the heavenly sanctuary right now!  See Hebrews 8:1-2.

12. What did John do when He saw the risen Christ?  verse 17.

Answer: He at His as .

Many today say that they “see” Jesus often.  One popular television preacher says that Jesus visits him every morning when he is shaving!  He says “I just say ‘Hello Lord,’ and go on shaving!”  What a different reaction the holy apostle John had when he saw the REAL risen Lord!  It makes us wonder if the “Jesus” many are claiming to see today might not be counterfeits that Jesus warned us about in Matthew 24:5.

13. What does Jesus have the “keys” to?  See verse 18.

Answer: and of .

The word translated hell here is the Greek word hades and literally means the “grave or abode of the dead.”  Jesus has the keys to everlasting life!  Have you asked Him to be your Lord and Savior and to forgive you of your sins?  Have you received the free gift of eternal life?  If you have, then you should know now that you have eternal life.  If you don’t know, then why not let the person sharing these studies with you lead you in the simple prayer of faith right now?  Do it before you do the next question! If you are taking these studies by mail, here is the simple prayer of faith you can pray right now:

“Dear Father in heaven, please forgive me of my sins.  I accept Thy Son Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior.  Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for me.  I receive now by faith the gift of eternal life.”

If you prayed this prayer in sincerity, then you have eternal life! The Holy Spirit will live in you and cause you to grow in grace and knowledge!  Praise the Lord!  See 1 John 5:12-13.

14. What did Jesus tell John to do?  verse 19.

Answer: " the which thou hast ."

15. Who do “stars” represent in the prophecy of Revelation?  See verse 20.

Answer: "... the seven stars are the of the seven churches ..."

Here we see how the Lord tells us that stars represent angels.  There are many other verses in the Bible that help us explain the symbolism used in the book of Revelation.  For example, Revelation 17:15 tells us that “water” represents “many peoples, and nations, and tongues" in Bible prophecy.  Ezekiel 4:6 tells us that a day represents a year in prophecy, etc.

Bonus Study on the Gospel

1. We cannot be good enough to be saved, for we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.  We are saved by grace which is God’s unmerited favor to us.  See Romans 3:23 & Ephesians 2:8-9.

2. If we could be saved by obeying the Ten Commandments alone, then Jesus’ death would be in vain.  See Galatians 2:21.

3. Sin is breaking or transgressing God’s law.  Since we “all have sinned,” we owe the wages of sin, which the Bible says is “death.”  But we can choose to let Jesus' death on Calvary’s cross count as payment for our sins. This is God’s gift to all who will accept it!  See 1 John 3:4 & Romans 6:23.

4. We must be born again before we can “see” the kingdom of God.  God’s Word tells us that if we confess our sins, Jesus will forgive us, and cleanse us from sin’s penalty and power!  1 John 1:9 & John 3:3.

5. In Old Testament times, unblemished lambs and other sacrifices were offered on the altar for the forgiveness of sins. These sacrifices, and their shed blood pointed forward to Jesus, the REAL “Lamb of God who taketh away the sins of the world”! See Lev. 3:7-8 & John 1:29.

6. When a person receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, he or she becomes a new person in Christ.  Old things pass away!  See 2 Corinthians 5:17.

7. We can know RIGHT NOW, for sure, that we have eternal life! See 1 John 5:9-13.  Through Jesus Christ, we can have peace with God.  See Romans 5:1.

8. If we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved! Jesus is asking us to open the door of our hearts to Him right now!  See Romans 10:9 & Revelation 3:20.

9. The Lord wants us to “grow in grace.”  We do this by feeding on the “sincere milk of the Word” of God.  See 2 Peter 3:18 & 1 Peter 2:2.
