Lesson 30: The Good News about the Laodicean Message |
|
"Behold I stand at the door and knock." Rev. 3:20 |
In the end of time, the Lord has a very special message to His people. The
message is especially given to the “Laodicean Church.”
Each of the seven churches in the book of Revelation represents not only
a literal church in Asia at the time it was written, but also different eras in
the church’s history.
The Laodicean church is the last one the Lord addressed, and it represents
Christians living in the last days of earth’s history.
We learned in lesson 26 that the Seventh-day Adventist Church fits all the
identifying marks of the remnant church identified in Bible prophecy.
We learned from Revelation 18:4 that God is calling His people out
of Babylon into His remnant church.
It is to the last part of His church -- the remnant -- that the message to the
Laodiceans applies!
1. Who is giving the message to the Laodicean church?
Revelation 3:14.
Answer: The

This faithful and True Witness is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ.
The word translated “beginning” in this verse also means “source.”
Jesus is the source of the creation of God! See John 1:1-3 for proof of
this.
Because this message comes from Jesus, it cannot be wrong!
2. What does Jesus KNOW about us?
Revelation 3:15.
Answer: He knows our .

Jesus knows just what we have been doing, what kind of faith we have, and what
kind of experience we have!
3. What did He say about the works of the Laodiceans? See
verse 16
again.
Answer: He said they were not or
, but rather they were

The Laodicean message applies to the people of God who profess to believe
present truth.
The greater part are lukewarm professors.
By the way, the term Laodicea does not mean lukewarm, but rather “a people under
judgment.”
We are the people living in the time of the investigative judgment that we learned
about in lesson 10 of this series.
You might wish to review them. As the Lord judges His church, he finds the
majority, “the greater part” lukewarm, and
desires that they understand their condition. The hot have experienced the
new birth and know the meaning of daily living by the Spirit.
The cold, knowing they are uncommitted (perhaps not knowing how, or not wanting
to), realize their lost condition.
The Lukewarm think they are right with God, not knowing that actually they are in
a lost condition!
4. If those in the lukewarm condition stay that way, what will Jesus do to
them?
See
verse 16
of Revelation 3.
Answer: He will them out of His .

This means that they will be lost! It is impossible for someone in this
condition to be saved because they have just enough religion to be dangerous, to
think themselves okay, when in fact, they are lost!
Many have the theory of the truth who know not the power of godliness. If the
Word of God dwells in the heart, it
would control the life.
5. How do the Laodiceans view themselves? See
verse 17.
Answer: They say that they are and
with
and in
of .
6. But how does Jesus describe their condition?
Same verse.
Answer: He says that they are , and , and , and , and .

What greater deception can come upon human minds than a confidence that they are
right when they are all wrong!
The message of the True Witness finds the people of God in a sad deception, yet
honest in that deception.
How plainly in the Master’s words is pictured the position of those who think they
have all the truth, who take pride in their knowledge of the Word of God, while its
sanctifying power has not been felt in their lives.
They may be crying, “the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord are we,” while
their hearts are filled with unholy traffic and unrighteous barter.
The courts of the soul temple may be the haunt of envy, pride, passion, evil
surmising, bitterness, and hollow formalism.
Christ looks sadly upon His professed last day people who feel rich and increased
in the knowledge of the truth, and yet who are destitute of the truth in life and character.
7. What does the Word of God say in
Proverbs 14:12.
Fill in: "There is a which right to a , but its thereof are the ways of ."

The testimony Jesus gives His people in the last days as found in the Laodicean
message is strong.
Some will not bear this straight testimony. They will rise up against it, and
that is what will cause a shaking among God’s people.
This testimony has been lightly esteemed, if not entirely disregarded. But
this testimony of Jesus must work deep repentance.
All who truly receive it will obey it and be purified! It is a message of
good news, of victory over sin, and of spiritual cleansing through the power of the
indwelling Christ!
8. What does Jesus counsel the Laodiceans to “buy” from Him?
Revelation 3:18.
Answer: tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with , that thou mayest see.
![]()
The gold tried in the fire is faith that works by love. Only this can
bring us in harmony with God.
We may be active, we may do much work; but without love, such love as dwelt in
the heart of Christ, we can never be numbered with the family of heaven.
The white raiment is often used in the Bible to depict purity and victory.
See Revelation 3:5 and 6:11. Man’s righteousness is “as filthy rags”
according to
Isaiah 64:6. Only Christ’s perfect righteousness can be called pure
and white!
His robe must cover our nakedness! When we trust in His merits, and His
perfect righteousness instead of our own, we will be dressed properly for God’s
inspection and acceptance!
The “eyesalve” that we need to help us see is the “Word of God!”
The Word of God makes the conscience smart under its application; for it convicts
of sin.
But the pain is necessary that the healing may follow, and the eye be single to
the glory of God!
9. Why does Jesus give His last day church such strong rebuke?
Revelation 3:19.
Answer: "As many as I , I rebuke, and ..."
![]()
It is because the Lord loves us that He rebukes us. Parents discipline
their children and
speak words of warning to them because they love them and do not want to see any
harm come to them!
God loves you, and that’s why He wants your experience and relationship with Him
to be the real thing!
10. How does the Lord want us to respond when we hear these words? See
verse 19 of
Revelation 3 again.
Answer: He wants us to be , and to
of our sins and shortcomings!
If we confess and repent of our sins, the Lord will forgive us! There is
hope for the Laodiceans in Jesus!
11. What wonderful offer and solution does Jesus give to the Laodiceans?
Revelation 3:20.
Fill in: "Behold, I stand at the
, and
; If any man hear my voice, and
the door, I will
in to him, and will
with him, and he with ."
How willing is Christ to take possession of the soul temple if we will let
Him!
He has been knocking for a long time. Why does He not enter into some
hearts?
It is because the love of sin has closed the door of the heart. As soon as
we consent to give sin up, to admit our guilt, the barrier is removed between the
soul and the savior.
When one is fully emptied of self, when every false god is cast out of the soul
because of love for Christ, and a willingness to receive the already purchased
salvation, the vacuum of the heart is filled by the
inflowing of the Spirit of Christ.
12. Are you ready for the kind of victorious life the Savior wants to give you,
and are you ready to throw open the doors of your heart to Him right now?
Answer: .
