Lesson 18: The Good News about our Time and Money

Loaves and Fishes

We believe in church organization and it is our purpose to support the Lord’s church with our tithes and offerings, and by our personal effort and influence.

1. What did our heavenly Father give us that shows His tremendous love and generosity towards us? Romans 8:32.

Answer: His own .

If He gave us His Son will He hold back anything from us?

2. What kind of giver does the Lord “love”? 2 Corinthians 9:6-7.

Answer: A giver.

Our heavenly Father does not want anything from someone who complains and gripes that he or she has to give money to His church! Such a spirit hurts the One who freely gives us all things and did not even spare His own Son to save us!

3. What rightfully belongs to the God of heaven? Psalm 24:1.

Answer: .

Not a single thing we own is the result of our own doings. It is because the Lord has been good to us that we have what we do have. The true owner of all is God who made every atom that exists in the universe!

4. What do we need to remember when it comes to making money? Deuteronomy 8:18.

Answer: It is our heavenly Father who gives us the to go out and make !

Some people deceive themselves into thinking that it is their wisdom that makes them financially successful, or allows them to get a good paying job. How foolish it is to forget who it is that is blessing them!

5. When we receive money, when should we give the Lord His portion? Proverbs 3:9-10.

Answer: We are to give to the Lord the of all our increase.

In other words, we are to think of Him and His cause before ours! He is to get the “firstfruits”! Before we do anything else with our money we should make sure that we have taken out what belongs to God and given it to Him! When we put the Lord FIRST we will be blessed in all that we put our hands to.

6. What is a “tithe”? Leviticus 27:32.

Answer: A tithe is .

One dollar out of every ten we receive belongs to the Lord. One tenth of whatever our increase is belongs to Yahweh. It is not ours, it is His! When we receive our paychecks, we are to take one tenth of the GROSS amount earned. We do not pay tithes on the net amount (your take home pay), because we are paying taxes, retirement, health plan, etc., and the Lord should not be billed for that! If we own a business, then we pay tithes on our profits after expenses.

7. What is the tithes to be used for? Numbers 18:21.

Answer: To support those who for the .

The children of Levi were the Lord’s priests who ministered to the people in the wilderness. They were supported by the tithe funds that the people gave. Today, the church still uses the tithe to pay the living expenses of those who minister and serve God’s church. They that preach the gospel are to live by the tithes of the people they minister to. This is the Lord’s plan of systematic benevolence. This divine plan is more than adequate to finance the Lord’s work on the earth and for this reason there is no need for the church to hold “bingo” games, “bazaars” and “Las Vegas” nights to raise money as some churches that do not follow God’s plan have to do!

8. Those who minister the gospel ought to be able to do what? 1 Corinthians 9:13-14.

Answer: They ought to be able to earn a decent from the gospel work.

We should never begrudge money spent for salaries of those who work for the Lord. The church is careful to make sure that no exorbitant salaries are paid. The Seventh-day Adventist Church pastor makes the same salary in a church of 50 members as the pastor in a church with 5000 members. This removes the desire to get larger churches just because of the salary. It also eliminates the problem we are seeing in some other denominations, where pastors who keep and control all the money have become tempted by this kind of money and control and have fallen into sin as a result!

9. How does God view those who do not return the tithe to Him and who keep back their offerings from His cause? Malachi 3:8-9.

Answer: He calls them .

He also says that they were “robbing” Him in OFFERINGS as well as the tithe! The tithes go to support workers in the Lord’s cause. None of the tithes are used to pay the local expenses of the church. This must come from the freewill offerings of each member. Many people pay tithes but they forget that they are also guilty of robbing God if they do not give any offerings to the local church!

10. What great rewards does the Lord promise to those who are faithful in returning the WHOLE tithe to Him? Malachi 3:10-11.

Answer: He will open the of heaven and give us in such amounts that we will have enough to them!

Our Father in heaven tells us to "prove" Him regarding this matter. He asks us to put Him to the test and see if He will not keep His promise to us!

11. Did Jesus remind us that there are more important things than tithe but that tithe paying should not be left undone? Matthew 23:23.

Answer: .

12. If we put the Lord FIRST, what will be provided to us? Matthew 6:33.

Answer: else.

13. If we do not support the Lord’s cause and put the money to our own use it will be like putting money into what kind of bag? Haggai 1:4-9.

Answer: One with in it.

The Lord cannot bless a selfish and ungrateful heart. This world is passing away and the only thing that will remain of our money is what we have used of it to spread the everlasting gospel to others. The souls saved because of our financial support will live forever in the paradise of God! What better investment could we make?

14. Where is the best place to build a bank account? Luke 12:33-34.

Answer: In .

15. If we use any of the Lord’s tithes (misappropriate His money), what should we add to the amount we need to pay? Leviticus 27:31.

Answer: We are to add a which is percent.

We are not to use the tithe for any other purpose. If we have done this, we are to repent and also add 20% more to it. This does not mean that the Lord requires us to do the impossible and pay all the money from before we were converted and knew about the tithe system or to repay what perhaps we have not properly given in years past. He is merciful to us.  But now that we know He expects us to be faithful stewards of what He gives us!

16. Because we are living in a sinful world, what does the Lord tell us to do concerning our time? Ephesians 5:16.

Answer: it.

Besides one tenth of our finances, we ought to devote some of our time to the Lord’s cause. He needs us more than our money. God’s church needs PEOPLE power!

17. What is one of the main reasons the Holy Spirit gives us power for? Acts 1:8.

Answer: So that we might be a for Jesus.

Sharing our faith takes time that we must set aside for this activity. Witnessing is essential if we are to maintain our faith. Every Christian should be involved regularly in giving Bible studies or some other soul saving activity.

18. What does the Lord want to make us? Matthew 4:19.

Answer: of men.

It takes some time to be a witness for Jesus. There are 168 hours in a week. Most people spend on the average approximately 56 hours sleeping, 40 hours working, 20 hours eating, 14 hours driving and shopping. Give or take a few hours, that leaves approximately 36 hours for ourselves and our family in a week. Can we not give the Lord one tenth of this free time and spend a few hours a week doing the Lord’s work?

19. If we spend some time going forth with tears of concern sharing Bible studies with others and planting the seeds of truth in their hearts, we will doubtless return with what? Psalm 126:5-6.

Answer: , bringing the with us.

The “sheaves” are people won to Jesus for eternity!  They represent friends, family and neighbors that you helped save! There is no more important work on earth than the work of sharing the gospel with others! Think what it did for you! Won't you begin today to let the Lord use you to win others to Him?

20. What did Jesus command the formerly demon-possessed man whom He had set free to do? Luke 8:38-40.

Answer: Return to his and his family what great things God had done for .

That’s what we are to do also! Our church has a Gospel workers training program that will teach you how to share Bible truths with others in an enjoyable way. Ask the person sharing these Bible lessons with you about the program. Maybe you can be in the next class!

21. Do you love the Lord enough to be willing to become a faithful steward of your time and money?

Answer: .
