Lesson 11: The Good News about Eternal Security

"He that endureth unto the end, the same shall be saved."

Matthew 10:22

The Bible teaches us that salvation in Christ can be obtained in a moment, when one repents and receives Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior. This salvation is based on the merits of a crucified and risen Savior. However, salvation cannot be maintained apart from Christ. If we abide in Christ, the True Vine, we are saved. If we depart from the vine, we will wither and die spiritually and make shipwreck of faith! Let’s allow the word of God to teach us about this now!

1. What did Paul say would happen to him if he did not fight the good fight of faith and bring his body into subjection?  1 Corinthians 9:26-27.

Answer: He might himself become a "."

The word translated “castaway” in the Greek literally means “disqualified.” Paul did not teach a once saved, always saved doctrine!

2. What did Jesus say would happen to a man’s crown if he did not hold fast to it?   Revelation 3:11.

Answer: He could have his away from him!

Why would one have to hold fast to his crown if it was impossible to lose it? See also Revelation 2:25.

3. Who did Jesus promise the right to the tree of life, victory over the second death, the right to eat from His hidden manna, power over the nations, and the right to share His own throne? See Revelation 2:7 & 11, 2:17 & 26, 3:21.

Answer: Only to those who are .

Jesus promised eternal life to those who overcame! The opposite of this is that those who do not overcome will not receive the eternal blessings the Savior promised! The Lord will not take anyone kicking and screaming to heaven! Only those who want to be there will be there!

4. Who will have eternal security and never more be able to go out? See Revelation 3:12.

Answer: The .

Only after Jesus returns and gives these rewards to His people: after sin is destroyed will there be no more danger of departing from the Lord! It is then that the overcomers “shall go no more out!”

5. Who did Jesus say will ultimately be saved? Matthew 10:22.

Answer: He that unto the shall be saved.

6. What did Paul say would happen to those who trample under foot the blood of Christ, and who sin “willfully” AFTER they have received a knowledge of the truth? See Hebrews 10:26-29.

Answer: They will be judged and receive “fiery indignation” and ultimately be by the flames! (The answer is in verse 27).

Paul is not talking here about unbelievers, but rather, those who were "once sanctified!" See verse 29. The only way we can be sanctified is by receiving the Lord Jesus Christ! See 1 Corinthians 1:2. The Bible never teaches the doctrine we hear being taught in so many churches today that a person who is “saved” (usually by coming forward for an altar call) can never be lost, and who can now go out and live a sinful life! Such teaching is a dangerous delusion!

7. Who will receive “eternal salvation”? See Hebrews 5:9.

Answer: All those who God!

Obedience is the response of a truly converted soul! Those who do not obey God’s commandments will not be saved no matter how many times they respond to altar calls! If a person truly knows God, they will have in their hearts the desire to obey all His commandments! Jesus will write these laws in the hearts of the truly converted! See Hebrews 10:16.

8. If a person says they “know” the Lord, and yet they break God’s commandments, what are they? 1 John 2:4.

Answer: .

9. Will liars enter the kingdom of God? See Revelation 22:15.

Answer: .

10. What does the Lord give those who receive His Son as their personal Savior? John 1:12-13.

Answer: Power to become a or of God.

11. Did Jesus say it was possible to have your name blotted out from the book of life? Revelation 3:5.

Answer: .

Jesus taught that abiding faith in Him is needed for eternal salvation to be secure. Being an overcomer over sin is an essential part of being a Christian! Sin is the transgression of the Law. See 1 John 3:4. Obedience to God is not what saves us, but it is a way for us to show that we really do love God! See John 14:15.

12. What seven things did Peter tell us to add to our faith if we want to be guaranteed that we will not fall short of eternal life? 2 Peter 1:4-11.

Answer: , , , , , brotherly , and .

Peter said that we are to be “diligent to make” our “calling and election SURE.” He did not teach that we can sit back and say, “I am saved, and I can never be lost!” Such ideas were never mentioned by the men of God! See also Philippians 2:12.

13. What did Paul say happened to the faith of some who did not maintain a “good conscience” and who did not hold on to their faith? 1 Timothy 1:19.

Answer: Their faith, like a sea going vessel was " ."

A ship that is wrecked does not make it safely to the dock! Likewise, a person whose faith is shipwrecked will not make it safely to the heavenly shore!

14. What did Jesus say would happen to the person who does not abide in Him? John 15:6.

Answer: He will be as a branch, and into the , where he will be .

A person cannot become part of the True Vine (Jesus) unless He receives Jesus as Lord and Savior! So Jesus is talking here about those who were once with Him, but who depart from Him! Their fate is plain, they will wither and dry up -- good only for the fire like dead branches would be! Verse 3 makes it plain that the people Jesus was talking to had become clean by the word of God! The Savior taught that believers must continue to abide in Him. Jesus did not teach once saved, always saved!

15. Who did Jesus say would receive the “crown” of eternal life? Revelation 2:10.

Answer: To those who are unto .

Why would they have to be full of faith until the day of their death in order to receive the crown of eternal life, if their salvation could not be lost if they were unfaithful? My, how clear the Word of God is! It is too bad that so many believe what others say instead of letting the Lord's Word instruct them! Believe God’s word!

16. What did the Lord say would happen to a “righteous” man if he turns away from righteousness and commits “iniquity”? Ezekiel 18:24.

Answer: He will in his .

17. What did Paul advise those who think that they are standing tall in the Lord? 1 Corinthians 10:12.

Answer: They should take heed lest they .

18. What ten sins did Paul warn believers to stay away from, and not allow themselves to be deceived into thinking they could be saved while committing these sins? 1 Corinthians 6:9-11.

Answer: , , , effeminate (transvestites), of themselves with , , , , revilers, , shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Paul was not talking to non-believers here!   He was talking to those who were “washed” and “sanctified” by the “Spirit of our God!” See verse 11 for proof. He was warning Christians not to be deceived by those who say “It’s okay to commit these sins. You can never be lost once you are saved!” I wonder what Paul would say today to the ministers who teach this unbiblical and sin friendly message?
