Lesson 10: The Remnant Church

The average person is confused with this bewildering array of churches.

God does have a true church organization on the earth.  The word of God makes plain that not ALL churches are the pathways to heaven!  Jesus said, “narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and FEW there be that find it.”  See Matthew 7:14.  The true church will teach all the truth of God, not just some of it.  This matter demands the most careful study, for one’s eternal destiny is involved!

1.  First of all, what must be the foundation of the true church?  1 Corinthians 3:11.

Answer:  .

Human theories, traditions, and philosophies cannot properly support the church. It must be built on Jesus! All other foundations are shifting sand!

2.  How is the true church pictured in Revelation 12:1?

Answer:  As a clothed with the .

Revelation is written in symbolic language.  A woman represents the church or the true people of God.  See Jeremiah 6:2.

3.  Besides a woman representing the true church, is there another woman mentioned in Revelation that represents the false church?  Revelation 17:3-5.

Answer:  .

Notice that the official colors of this fallen church are purple and scarlet.  This woman represents the false religious system that deceives the whole world.  It is the same power represented as the “beast” in Revelation chapter 13.

4.  How long would the true church (as represented by the woman of Revelation chapter 12) have to flee into the wilderness?   Revelation 12:14.

Answer:  For days.

In prophecy, a day represents a year.  See Ezekiel 4:6.  The true church would have to flee into the wilderness for 1260 years.  She fled the devil’s persecution.

5.  For how long would the false church represented by the beast of Revelation 13 rule supreme?   Revelation 13:5.

Answer:  months.

The true church had to flee from the persecuting power of the false church!  In the year 535 AD, the prominent church in Rome at that time declared that its bishop, whom they called the "pontiff", was to rule all other bishops.  This was the creation of the papacy.  This papal church grew into prominence for centuries afterward.  Its time of supreme rule was what gave birth to the “Dark Ages.”  During this time period of 42 months or 1260 days (42 multiplied by 30 equals 1260 days or years in prophecy), over 50 million people were put to death.  That is why those who believed in the Bible and denied the supremacy of the pope had to flee!

God has always had a people who were true to His word.  The Waldensians in Italy and the Huguenots in France were terribly persecuted for their faith.  You can obtain a book called Foxes Book of Martyrs at your local Christian bookstore that will give great detail about these terrible persecutions at the hands of the Roman Church. The Bible says that the false church would be “drunken with the blood of the saints.”   Revelation 17: 6.  In his book Key to the Apocalypse, H.G. Guiness writes:

"Plainly and openly the church of Rome has declared herself to be a persecuting church.  She has glorified in her intolerance.  Her avowed doctrine is that heretics ought to be visited by secular powers and even with death itself."

6.  What would “help” the true church flee from the persecuting power of Satan?   Revelation 12:15-16.

Answer:  The helped the .

The earth would provide a place for the woman to be protected from the “flood” of persecutions.  That place was the wilderness places, and also the United States of America was a haven for religious freedom!  So according to the Bible, the true church would come out of hiding after the 1260 years of persecution. Since that began in 538 AD with the establishment of the Roman Papacy, 1260 years later would be 1798 AD.  In other words, the true church would again become visible after the year 1798!

The true church will teach the same things the apostles taught.  It will proclaim the truths of the Bible just before the Second Coming of Jesus!  On the contrary, the fallen church goes back only to 538 AD!

7.  Did Paul warn about a “falling away” from truth by some “Christians” before the coming of Jesus?   2 Thessalonians 2:3.

Answer:  .

8.  Revelation 12:17 identifies the true church as she comes out of the wilderness years.  What is this church called?

Answer:  The .

A “remnant” is the last remaining part as when you purchase a remnant carpet.  It is the church at the end of time and just like a remnant piece of carpet it is the same as the first piece!  So the “remnant church” will be like the first church in the days of the apostles.  It will teach the very same truths!

Let’s review a little.  We have learned that the true church will come out in the open after 1798 and that it will become prominent in America, the land of religious freedom.  “The earth helped the woman.”

9.  What are two more clearly identifying marks of the true church?  Revelation 12:17 again.

Answer:  They the of God, and they have the of .

In order to be described as those who “keep the commandments of God,” the remnant church must be keeping all ten of the Ten Commandments because James 2:10-12 tells us that if we break one, we are guilty of breaking them all!  So the remnant church will be keeping all of the Ten Commandments!  Most churches agree with nine of the commandments, but almost all are deceived about the fourth one, which requires the observance of the seventh day as the Sabbath!

10.  How many will Satan deceive through his false religious systems?   Revelation 12:9.

Answer:  He deceives the .

11.  What does the “remnant” church of Revelation warn the world about?  Revelation 14:9-11.

Answer:  The of the .

12.  What else does the true church of Revelation tell the world to do?  Revelation 14:6-7.

Answer:  “Worship Him that heaven and earth.”

The true church tells the world to worship the Creator.  We have already learned that the Sabbath is the memorial that Yahweh gave so that all would always remember that He is the Creator! So the true church will teach men to keep the seventh day Sabbath, for you cannot "worship Him who made heaven and earth" while ignoring the seventh day Sabbath which God gave as His memorial to creation!

So far we have learned that the true church would arise in America after 1798.  It would keep all ten of God’s Commandments, it will warn the world about the beast and his mark, and it will tell the world to worship the Creator by keeping holy the Sabbath day!  Friends, already we can see that the Seventh-day Adventist Church fits these prophecies.   But the Lord gives us even more identifying marks.  Let’s study some more!

13.  Besides keeping all of the commandments of God, what else does the “remnant” church have?  Revelation 12:17.

Answer:  The of .

14.  What is the “testimony of Jesus”?  Revelation 19:10.

Answer:  The of .

15.  Who has the testimony of Jesus?  Revelation 22:9.

Answer:  John’s “brethren” who are .

The true church would have someone in it that would have the “testimony of Jesus” or the “Spirit of Prophecy.”  The Seventh-day Adventist Church was given this “Spirit of Prophecy” shortly after 1844 through the ministry of Ellen G. White, who received numerous visions that have stood the test of the Bible and time!  So it is clear that the Seventh-day Adventist Church has yet more proof that it is indeed the “remnant church” mentioned in Bible prophecy.  But there is still more evidence!

16.  What does the “remnant” church tell the world to “give” to God?  Revelation 14:7.

Answer:  .

17.  What is one of the most important ways we give glory to God?  1 Corinthians 10:31.

Answer:  By what we and .

Again the Seventh-day Adventist church rings true in this area! We believe in teaching principles of diet and health.  While multitudes believe that the soul leaves the body and can communicate with the living, the remnant church will teach the truth about the state of the dead.

18.  What does the true church teach about the “dead”?  Revelation 14:13.

Answer:  That they from their .

19.  What is the most important message that the remnant church will teach?  Revelation 14:8.

Answer:  The gospel.

The true church will teach about Jesus and His great salvation and will call men and women to give their hearts to Jesus.  If you haven’t done that, make sure you do it now!  Jesus loves you very much!  He will forgive and save you right now if you but ask Him!

Let’s now examine the nine clear identifying marks that we have studied and which the “remnant church” will have.

1. It rises after 1798.
2. It will be centered in America.
3. It will preach the gospel.
4. It will have a message about health.
5. It will keep all Ten Commandments.
6. It will keep the Seventh-day Sabbath.
7. It will teach the truth about the dead.
8. It will have in it the gift of prophecy.
9. It will warn about the beast and his mark.

Friends, if you went through your town and went to every church searching for all of these identifying marks, you would not find all of them in any other church but the Seventh-day Adventist Church!  It fits perfectly the prophecy about the “remnant church.”  God wants you to make a decision to join His remnant church in these last days.  You have learned some very important truths in these ten lessons.  We pray that they have been a real blessing to you.  If you would like to continue with other Bible lessons, click on "next" at the bottom of this page.

20.  Would you like a representative from the Seventh-day Adventist Church to give you a call, or pay a personal visit?

Yes     No

If you would like to talk to the pastor of your local Seventh-day Adventist Church, why not give him a call?  If you need help in locating your nearest church, please let us know by email, phone, or mail.

Also, every fourth Sabbath (Saturday) the pastor presents a special message on Bible prophecy.  We hope you can attend one day soon!   May the Lord richly bless you and yours!

"Here is the patience of the saints; here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."
