1.  What does the angel say “is fallen, is fallen”?    Revelation 18:2.

This term is a symbolic name for the false religious system that deceives the whole world.  According to Revelation, this false religious system will deceive the whole world with false doctrine and false worship. The name indicates it will have religious elements in it that originated in ancient Babylon!

2.  Besides the name, “Babylon the Great,” what other title is given to this false religious system?   Revelation 17:1.

Answer:  The Great that sittest upon many having names of , having seven and ten .

The term “beast,” “Great Whore,” and “Babylon the Great" are all titles used in the book of Revelation to denote the great false religious system that has deceived and is deceiving the whole world!  This beast the Great whore rides or controls is some type of union of nations that all pay allegiance to the false church as indicated in Revelation 17:3 because it says she has the names of "blasphemy" upon it.  This term has to do with religion!

3.  What does the term “many waters” upon which the Great whore sits indicate about the false church’s influence?   Revelation 17:15.

Answer:  The “many waters” represents the many of the world that this false Church will have influence and rule over!

4.  Are the “Great whore” and “Babylon the Great” one and the same?   Revelation 17:1-5.

5.  In contrast to the Great Whore church, what is the true church pictured as?   Revelation 12:1-2.

Answer:  A pure .

This symbolic woman represents the pure people of Yahweh down through the centuries!  The Great Whore is the false church; the pure woman is the true one!

6.  What was the Great whore seen sitting upon?   Revelation 17:3.

Answer:  "A colored full of names of , having heads and ten ."

7.  Who gives the beast of Revelation 13 his power and throne?    Revelation 13:2.

See Revelation 12:9 to ascertain who the great, red dragon really is!  But Satan never shows himself openly; he uses other powers to enforce his ways, as we shall see!

8.  What did Satan try to do to Jesus as soon as He was born a babe and became flesh to save us from sin?   Revelation 12:4.

Answer:  He wanted to Him.

History and the Bible tells us that when Jesus was born, Satan used the power of imperial Rome as his instrument of choice to try to destroy and “devour” the newborn Messiah. This is a very important identifying mark as to who the BEAST, the GREAT WHORE, and BABYLON THE GREAT represent!  Rome, we shall see, has a very important part to play in the matters of the great controversy between Christ and Satan!

Revelation 13:2 tells us that the dragon (which primarily represents Satan, and which secondarily represents pagan Rome) "gave" the beast his “power, and his seat, and great authority.” To find out who the “beast” represents, we need to know who received “power,”  “authority,” and the “seat” from pagan Rome!

When pagan Rome fell from power, papal Rome took its place! The Roman Church received from pagan Rome its seat, power, and great authority!  A.C. Flick the historian, in his book, The Rise of the Medieval Church, writes this:

“It is an undisputed fact of history that under the latter Roman emperors, after Constantine, the religion of the Roman government was changed from pagan to papal ... that after AD 476, the bishop of Rome (the pope) became the most influential power in Western Rome, and by Justinian, in 533 AD was declared the ‘head of all the holy churches,’ and the ‘corrector of heretics.’  The removal of the capital from Rome to Constantinople in 330 AD, left the western church, practically free from imperial power, to develop its own form of organization.  The bishop of Rome, in the SEAT of the Caesars, was now the greatest man in the West, and was soon, when the Barbarians overran the empire, forced to became the political as well as the spiritual head.”

9.  Does the religious “beast” of Revelation 13 exert his influence over the whole world?   Revelation 13:7.

Since the fall of pagan Rome, there has only been one fallen church that has a single man at its head, who sits on a throne, and who has loyal subjects in every nation.  That church is the Roman Catholic Church!  It received its power from pagan Rome, just as the prophecy said!  But the Lord gives us clearer identifying marks so that we need not mistake the identity of this beast!

10.  What does this great harlot sit on that is represented by the “seven heads” of the beast?   Revelation 17:9.

Fill in:  “Here is the mind which hath wisdom.  The seven heads are on which the woman sitteth.”

Rome is called the “city of seven hills”!  What a clear identifying mark as to the location of the Great Whore’s headquarters!  It is in Rome where the Vatican is located!

11.  The beast of Revelation 13 has a special number attached to its name.  We are told that this name would be applied to a specific “man.”  What’s the number of the beast?   Revelation 13:18.

Verse 17 says that it is the number of “his name” or title.  The Roman Pope is called by the official Latin title of VICARIVS FILII DEI.  Translated, this means “the vicar of the Son of God.”  Roman numerals have numerical value, and so it is possible to “count” the number of his name as the Bible says!  Let’s do that right now!

If we add 112 plus 53 plus 501, we come to the number 666, which is the number of his name -- THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST!

12.  According to the prophecy of Revelation 13, the Roman Papacy “beast” has a “mark.”  Will the Roman church attempt to enforce its “mark” through economic means?   Revelation 13:16-17.

13. What does the Papal Church of Rome claim is its “mark” of authority?

Answer:  Sunday worship!  In a letter written by Cardinal Gibbons on November 11, 1895, this leading Roman Catholic prelate wrote:

“Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change (from Sabbath to Sunday) was her act.  It could not have been otherwise, as none in those days would have dreamed of doing anything in matters spiritual and ecclesiastical and religious without her.  And the act is a MARK of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things.”

In the past, Pope John Paul has called Sunday the “MARK of Christianity”!  Early in 1999, Pope John Paul issued Dies Domini, a major encyclical regarding the keeping of Sunday in which he called for “civil legislation” to enforce Sunday sacredness!

14.  Did the prophet Daniel predict that the “little horn” (another title for the fallen Papal church) would try to change God’s times and laws?   Daniel 7:25.

Prophecy said the “little horn” would attempt to change God’s times and laws.  Rome has done it!  How plain the word of God is!  Students of the Bible will not be ignorant of these most important matters!

15. What does the God of heaven say His SIGN or MARK is?    Ezekiel 20:12.

The same word that is translated “mark” in Revelation 13 was used in Ezekiel 20:12 when it was translated into the Greek language in the Septuagint version of the Old Testament.  In fact, the same Hebrew word translated as “sign” in Ezekiel 20:12 is translated as “mark” in Genesis 4:15!

It is important that you understand that Sunday worship is not NOW the mark of the beast.  It is only when it is enforced by law, and after all have had an opportunity to know the issues involved, that the mark will be put on those who WILLINGLY break God’s Sabbath commandment and honor the false Sabbath of the Roman church otherwise known as the “beast,” the “Great Whore,” or “Babylon the Great.”

16.  Where does modern Sunday worship come from?  Let’s let D.B. Ray, a Roman Catholic author answer this question from his book The Papal Controversy published in 1892.  The quote below is from page 179 of his book. 

Answer:  “From this same Catholic Church you Protestants accepted your Sunday, and that Sunday, as the Lord’s Day, the Roman Catholic Church has handed down as a TRADITION; and the entire Protestant world has accepted it as tradition, FOR THERE IS NOT AN IOTA OF SCRIPTURE TO ESTABLISH IT!  Therefore, that which Protestants have accepted as their rule of faith, inadequate as it of course is, as well as your Sunday, you have accepted on the authority of the Roman Catholic Church.”

Thus the Roman church proudly boasts that it has changed the Sabbath to Sunday, and she laughs at Protestants for obeying her commandment of Sunday worship even though there is “not an iota of Scripture to establish” Sunday worship!  But Rome cannot make such a boast against those who keep the commandments of God as found in God’s Word -- the Bible!  A pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist Church prepared these lessons.  Here’s what Rome has to say about the TRUE Protestants in this issue!

“The Roman Catholic Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by right of the divine, infallible authority given to her by her Founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith has no warrant for Observing Sunday. In this matter, THE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST IS THE ONLY CONSISTENT PROTESTANT” -- The Catholic Universe bulletin, August 14, 1942, page 4.

17.  Is it evident that the “mark” of the beast will involve one of the Ten Commandments?   Revelation 14:9-12.

In verse 12, the Lord contrasts those who “keep the commandments of God” with those who receive the mark of the beast!  This makes it clear that the mark of the beast will involve disobedience to one of the Ten Commandments of God!  The only commandment most of the world has been deceived about is the fourth one involving the Seventh-day Sabbath, the ONLY DAY God calls His sign or mark, and the day Rome changed to Sunday which she claims as her MARK! Look at Revelation 12:9 and 13:3.

18.  Did Jesus warn us against obeying man’s traditions instead of His Father's commandments?   Matthew 15:3 and 9.

The great controversy is over obedience to Yahweh and His word versus obedience to the enemy of souls and his counterfeit ways! The whole world has been led astray, deceived by this false religious system!  You are, right NOW, being privileged to hear the truth about these matters!  All must make a decision regarding this issue.

Although these things must take place, we need not fear if we are in Christ!  Let us always remember that if we cling to Jesus and obey His Word, we shall never be lost, and no one will be able to snatch us from His hand!  The Lord tells us these things, not to frighten us, but to keep us from also being deceived. These truths will be obvious enough to the ones who are interested in doing God’s will!  The Great whore says that Sunday worship, which comes from ancient Babylonian sun worship, is her "mark" or sign.  Yahweh, the God of heaven, says that His sign or mark is the Seventh-day Sabbath.  Which one will you choose to obey?  I pray it’s the Word of God!
